Walk by faith

Walking by faith is not for the faint of heart. Faith walking requires courage that only comes from God. Many years ago I asked God to make me a faith walker. I wanted to walk on water metaphorically speaking. I had no idea what I was asking. Fast forward nine years. Now as I have been walking by faith which by God’s grace and help has produced a small coffee shop outreach, I find I need more courage than ever to continue walking by faith and seeing God move this ministry forward.

This little ministry/outreach is going on its fifth year as a ministry and on its third year as a coffee shop that runs on donations only. It tries my soul at times and there are days all I can see is the lack of funds or the need for more volunteers who are willing to put in time without pay. The thing is a faith walker is to keep their eyes on Jesus not the wave of problems.

In Matthew 14:25-32 we find the story of Peter walking on water. First Peter sees something in the distance that looks like a man walking on water but the human mind can’t comprehend a man who can walk on water so the disciples cry out in fear thinking it was a ghost. Jesus immediately calms their fears, calling out to them and letting them know that it is He. Peter says if its you Lord bid me to come to you and Jesus says come. Peter steps out of the boat and starts walking on the water to Jesus.

Here’s my point: In the storm of life how many times do we see something that looks like God in the distance but our minds can’t comprehend it because it’s seemingly impossible so we think it’s something ghostly (scary)? Jesus calls out to our soul to calm our fears. We in our excitement say God if that’s you call me to you. God calls us to Him and we jump out of our boat and start walking towards the call only to be met half way with a wave that’s over our heads and ability. The wave is lack of funds, or job, or loneliness or whatever it is that has you stuck right this moment. The awesome thing is even as that wave threatens to take us down and destroy us Jesus reaches out and pulls us up and to Him.

We are instructed to walk by faith not by sight 2Corinthians 5:7. Keep your eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2) not on the wave sent by life and your enemies. The minute we look at the wave we are overcome. When that happens cry out to Jesus and He will save you. Then try again with the courage that only comes from Him. God says to overcome is not by our might or our power but from His Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).

One final thought, just this week I was faced with a financial dilemma in the coffee shop. I felt overwhelmed because I wanted to help and knew the coffee shop was not bringing in enough provisions for us to step up and meet this financial need. In my heart as I prayed I felt God lead me to move by faith not by what I saw. This was so hard to say yes to meeting this need and seeing the numbers in the ledger that said no. But God is faithful to give you confirmation in His word. Here’s the word that God gave to me. Psalm 132:15 “I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her poor with bread.” I know this verse is speaking of Israel but the word is living and is for us today as well. How amazing is it that this verse is speaking of “her”? I being a woman minister and owner of a coffee shop needed God to speak to me, and He did using the word in the verse, “her”. God will abundantly bless my provision and help me satisfy the poor.

HeBrews 12:2 Coffee Shop outreach is a way to encourage people on a daily basis. In today’s stressful world we want to bring people a great start to their day by showing Christlike love and acceptance to all individuals. We offer a place were you can come for a great cup of coffee and find friendship, peaceful atomshpere, and acceptance.

We are growing and are wanting to open a drive thru soon. To do this we need a better espresso machine and grinder. Most espresso machines new start around $5000 up not including the grinder. Would you be a part of spreading happiness, acceptance, joy and great coffee drinks to others? Hoping to raise the funds by January.

All our drinks are sold on donation basis. We suggest a donation of $3.00 dollars but anything offered is accepted. Our main goal is to encourage and brighten people’s day. Thank you for considering to be a part of this outreach by donating.

Hebrews Enough Home is a place for women who are aging out of DHS foster care program.  We at Hebrews 12:2 Ministries want to offer a safe place for young women to come and receive training that will help them obtain a good job.  We also want to help with onsite counseling.  Finally give them spiritual help to live lives free of condemnation, rejection and guilt.  This is a three year program and each lady will have a small tuition that goes towards their supplies and upkeep. There will be training on life skills such as growing and canning produce.   We will offer help getting a higher education.  We want each woman to emerge from this program with self-confidence and the ability to stand on her own.

We can use your prayers.  We are in the beginning stages of acquiring this property.  There will be more post coming about the progress of this outreach.  Any and all donations for this project would be accepted and appreciated.  You can donate on this site by going to the donate tab and clicking on the words, “read more” which will send you to the place to donate.  When donating please leave us a message letting us know where you want the donation to go and leave us your email address so we can send you a receipt for your taxes.

God in the drive

We continued our Thursday drive, meeting people and praying with them and giving gifts. What was really awesome was when we had God moments in the drive. Here are some of the stories/God moments. One of the first stories was when we met an elderly lady at her home. When we stepped up on her porch we noticed a hole in front of her door. Our thought was that this was a hazard and that she could fall and break her hip. Not having money to help her we prayed and asked God for a way to help her. God gave me the idea to contact a friend of mine from church. When I called my friend, she put me in touch with a young man who had a construction company. After contacting him and sharing the need with him, he offered to build our elderly lady a new porch. All material and labor was totally donated and with in a few days our new friend had a new porch. What we didn’t know at the time was that God would use this act of kindness to begin a good reputation for our ministry.

Another story was when on one of our Thursday drives we met a man who was well know in Arcadia, in fact most people called him the father of Arcadia. He was well known and liked. Anyway the day we met him we saw him outside of his business and we stopped got our of the car and offered him a small gift. We introduced ourselves and he gave us his name. We started to leave when Vicki said wait I need to go pray for him. She went back to where the man was standing and told him she felt like God was telling her to pray for his stomach. She asked do you mind if I pray for you? He said yes pray and then told her he was fighting stomach cancer. God in the moment had revealed this man’s need!

God was moving and leading us as we drove the small town of Arcadia.  We prayed and watched for people that were out and about, staying aware of that small voice that would say this person, stop now.  We met people each Thursday as we drove the town looking for God moments.  Each week we would add people to our list to remember them in prayer.

One Thursday we felt lead to go into the businesses with our gifts and offer a word of encouragement.  We went into Subway and met a lady who worked there and gave her a gift and asked if she would like prayer.  She took the gifts and said yes to prayer, so right there we prayed over our new friend and ask God to meet her needs.  We didn’t know what was going on in her life but our God did.  She told us later that day was a turning point in her walk with God.  If we will be willing to move out of our comfort zone and say yes to God when He taps us on the shoulder, God can meet people in their everyday lives.  It isn’t always comfortable to pray for people at their work but obedience to God can change situations for people.

God was at the wheel in the drive through Arcadia and we wanted to be led and obedient.

The walk…drive

The following Thursday we drove to Arcadia with our little gifts to give. The first person we saw was a policeman sitting in the speed trap so we drove right up beside him, rolled down our window with big grins on our faces and offered him a pack of gum and said we wanted you to have a good day so please enjoy this gum and be blessed. With that we rolled up our window and drove away, laughing all the way…mainly because of his confused look. We then started down a new street in Arcadia looking for our next victim. Sure enough God gave us another person to surprise. A young woman wearing short shorts and a tube top was walking towards our car. Rolling down the window we pulled up to her, held out a package of gum and said we’d like to give you a gift. She cautiously approached wanting to know why we were giving away free gum. I got to tell you I thought it was funny that we were luring people to our car with candy. Didn’t moms tell us not to take candy from strangers? Sorry, back to the story. We told her that we wanted to brighten her day and if she needed prayer we would be happy to add her to our prayer list. At this point she began telling us her disappointment with the current church she had gone to and yes, she would like prayer. We prayed, took her name and number and promised to visit with her again the following Thursday. From this point we started knocking on doors and met a few people but then realized that this wasn’t working well because they thought we were Jehovah’s Witness and they would hide from us. So we prayed and ask God to show us people outside in the yards or walking who needed encouragement.

Beginnings (the grounds)

We thought it would be fun to share a blog of our ministries beginning to present. It began with a thought from my sister given from God… a God thought! The thought given, “was wouldn’t it be fun to have a coffee shop.” However, when she called me she said, “hey sis you should start a church in Arcadia.” Which I responded NO WAY! After hanging up the phone I felt strongly impressed by the Holy Spirit to go look at the town of Arcadia. I argued with God. NO! But I gave in and called my sister back. We met at Pop’s in Arcadia and discussed our plans.

My sister in her daily devotion in 1 Thessalonians 5:14-18, felt the Lord was telling her to go about doing good for people. I felt that according to Psalms 3:3 we should help lift the heads of those who were down. So together we came up with a plan to encourage people and bring a smile to their face by giving them happy little gifts. SO IT BEGAN!

We left Pops and drove the town. We decided that we would start the following Thursday passing out little gifts and if the Lord opened the door offer to pray for anyone who was willing. I left my sister and went home. No sooner had I gotten home she called me and said wouldn’t it be fun to start a coffee shop. The idea excited me and we came up with a name for the shop, Hebrews 12:2 Coffee Shop. Crazy thing about this was that neither I nor my sister knew anything about coffee or of starting a shop. Most God thoughts and ideas are way to big for you to do! That is how you know its a God idea not your own.

How to overcome

My prayer was teach me how to be an overcomer. Here’s what the Holy Spirit led me to and the revelation of the verse given to me.
Revelations 12:11 and they overcame and conquered him because of the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not love their life and renounce their faith even when faced with death.

When looking at this verse you notice three things first to overcome its by the blood of the Lamb! Go back to what Christ did for you at the cross! He gave you ALL that he was and He took all that you were. Meaning when you accept Christ as your Savior you are given all His power and ability through the Holy Spirit. He said you can do everything He did and greater! The blood of Christ covers all your brokenness and has made you sanctified! Remember this when the devil comes at you to tell you how broken you are. You can stand with your head held high and speak, ” I’m the righteousness of Christ! Second you overcome by the word of you testimony! What you speak you receive! (proverbs 18:21). We have to speak with authority and positively! You can’t speak positive one day and negatively the next! That’s a picture of a double minded man! The bible tells us tha if we doubt we receive nothing! Because we are double minded. Third we don’t lose our faith when facing something hard even death! We remember the cross and the blood shed for us and that Christ empowered us then we speak according to the word of God calling those things forth that are not seen but hope for. That’s faith according to Hebrews 11:1

Lord help us today to keep our eyes on you and to speak like you and walk in the power of the blood covering! Amen

Mercy and Help

Psalm 6:2New International Version (NIV)

Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint;
heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.

In this day and age people are stressed and overwhelmed by the problems of life!  Most carry a backbreaking load of worry and trails that threatens to take them down.  Yet God offers us relief from our heavy burdens and troubles of this life.  (Matthew 11:28-30 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”)  You can have peace in the middle of the trouble by calling upon the grace of God.  In Psalm 34:17 it says, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.  You may be saying well that’s great if you are righteous!  But I’m far from righteous.  The thing is we all need God and the blood of Jesus to make us righteous and the moment we call out to God and ask Jesus to be in our life, He answers and forgives us and comes into relationship with us.  One of the most tragic things is this belief that we who are broken have to jump through many hoops and change everything about us before God will accept us, when in fact the minute we cry out to God He hears and is ready to rescue us from sin.   It is so easy to be a child of God.  John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only beloved Son that who so ever believed on Him should be saved.”  You simply have to confess that Jesus is Lord, God’s Son, that He died for you and rose again!  With the declaration and invitation Jesus will come into your life and make you righteous and give you the right to become children of God.  (John 1:12  Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—)

Today invite Jesus into your life and receive His peace and take His burden which is light in exchange for your burden which is heavy.  Let the God of mercy give you peace and rescue you from all your trouble!  Lord I pray for each person who reads this message that you will bless them and give them a peace they have never known.  Rescue them from their problems as they cry out to you and invite you into their life’s.  Amen

Finish the good work in you

Philippians 1:6 tells us, “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of  Christ Jesus.”  Psalm 138:8 says, “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.”  God has a purpose and a plan for you and for your life.  He has battles for you to fight and win.  Maybe He has called you to work in the ministry.  Maybe right now you aren’t sure you can make another step.  Maybe you are going through hard life situation and you don’t think you can stand one more minute.  Let me share with you a well known bible story in Joshua 6:

6:1  Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the Israelites.  No one went out and no one came in.  The Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the mighty warriors. Now you shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do this [once each day] for six days. Also, seven priests shall carry seven trumpets [made] of rams’ horns ahead of the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. When they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall cry out with a great shout (battle cry); and the wall of the city will fall down in its place, and the people shall go up, each man [going] straight ahead [climbing over the rubble].”

So Joshua the son of Nun called for the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and have seven priests carry seven trumpets made of rams’ horns ahead of the ark of the Lord.” He said to the people, “Go forward! March around the city, and let the armed men go ahead of the ark of the Lord.” And it was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets made of rams’ horns went on before the Lord and blew the trumpets; then the ark of the covenant of the Lord went behind them. The armed men went in front of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard came after the ark, while the priests continued to blow the trumpets. 10 But Joshua commanded the people, “You shall not shout [the battle cry] nor let your voice be heard nor let a word come out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout!” 11 So Joshua had the ark of the Lord taken around the city [on the first day], circling it once; then they came back into the camp and spent the night in the camp.

God made a promise to Joshua.  He promised him that He had given the city into Joshua’s hands and that the walls would fall.  Actually God spoke as if the battle was already won!  Look at verse 2, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand.  But when Joshua looked at the city he saw the walls standing and a battle to be fought.  Sometimes we get discouraged because our perspective gets obstructed. Jericho was shut up and had high walls.  Joshua was promised victory and given instructions on how to win and receive God’s promise.  Has God given you a promise and you are still looking for the answer to that promise?  We can find ourselves ready to throw in the towel after we have been circling the walls of our battle for so long.  Here’s something to think about, Joshua had been given a promise that he would get to enter the promise land and take the people of Isreal in to this land.  He had already waited 40 years for this promise to be fulfilled, not because of something he had done, but because of the lack of aith of another.  Now after 40 years he’s entered into the promise land and God has him do seven days of excersice. How many of us have been praying waiting and then the door begins to open and we step through only to find another delay.  Six days Joshua was told to march around the city and then the priest were to blow the trumpets and the people shout, then the walls would fall.  God had given him the how’s to victory, but Joshua didn’t share all that with the army.  He called the priest to take up the ark of the covenant, (His presence).  Seven priest to carry seven trumpets (praise).  And he called the army of the Lord to march around the fortified city.  The army only had this instruction, “You shall not shout nor let your voice be heard nor let a word come out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout.”  Crazy instructions, can you imagine?  How many of us has God ask us to march in front of our enemy with our mouths shut?  My guess here is that if they talked during this time of not knowing how long they had to wait for victory, they could possibly discourage each other with doubt.  God has us go through periods of waiting to build our faith.

God loves us so much that he wants to build our faith and stamina, to mature us into amazing warriors for Him.  Psalms 51: 10-12 puts it this way, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant to me a willing spirit to sustain me.  Can we pray this prayer like David and be like Joshua and continue to march even when it looks like nothing is happening?  Let your faith arise and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, knowing He is finishing the good work within us, and the walls will come down!
